  • Overview

    The Director, Technical and Financial Reporting’s responsibilities will include researching and documenting conclusions on new and proposed accounting standards, implementing technical accounting conclusions related to revenue, purchase accounting, impairment, lease accounting and other accounting topics. Additional responsibilities will include managing and reviewing the SEC filing process and board reporting process for the RMR Group Inc.

     

    The Director, Technical Accounting and Financial Reporting’s will work closely with various members within the RMR Accounting organization, as well as numerous functions within RMR, including Senior Management, Asset Management, Real Estate Services, and external valuation professionals and auditors.

     

    This position reports to the Senior Director, Technical and RMR Accounting.

    Responsibilities

    • Serve as a resource to the RMR organization for assessing and documenting technical accounting considerations that arise in the normal course of operations.
    • Supervise and develop two direct reports: Senior, Technical Accounting and Senior Manager, Financial Reporting.
    • Manage the SEC filing process and review draft SEC filings to ensure completeness and accuracy.
    • Manage the board reporting process, work with various RMR departments to obtain appropriate documentation and review draft materials.
    • Research new or proposed accounting standards and summarize potential impacts.
    • Research SEC filings (Form 10-K, Form 10-Q, Form 8-K and Correspondence) and provide assistance to the financial reporting teams, as needed.
    • Formalize conclusions related to new or proposed accounting standards.
    • Lead implementation of new accounting standards.
    • Provide regular presentations of SEC and FASB topics to Senior Management.
    • Review and conclude on the documentation of our purchase accounting and impairment consideration activities.
    • Lead and supervise any special projects and strategic initiatives as they arise, including any documentation and presentations related to the project.
    • Lead and supervise the SOX 404 program management including collaborating with external resources and acting as point of contact for the accounting group.

     

     

     

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
    • Experience in public accounting (Big 4 preferable) or private industry (large public registrant preferable) with a focus on technical accounting research and SEC reporting. CPA required.
    • Previous experience managing a team.
    • Strong technical accounting (US GAAP) and business writing skills.
    • Experience with SEC reporting requirements.
    • Excellent client service orientation.
    • Strong proficiency with Excel and other Windows applications.
    • Ability to work in a fast paced environment, with the ability to multitask and meet deadlines.
    • Must be a team oriented, problem solver.
    • Ability to collaborate with internal and external teams.
    • An individual who will challenge the status quo and think outside the box.
    • Ability to respond to frequent ad hoc requests.
    • Exceptional organizational skills and verbal communication skills.
