  • Overview

    The Director, Investor Relations acts as the primary investor relations contact for two healthcare related publicly traded companies managed by The RMR Group (Nasdaq: RMR). This position reports to the Senior Vice President and works closely with company CEO’s, COO’s and CFO’s, will be able to:

    1. Develop the communications, business analyses and marketing functions of a Director level role to support best positioning for a publicly traded real estate investment trust and one operating company.
    2. Understand and recommend opportunities for refining the companies’ business plans and value proposition. Define and refine key messages and incorporate messages across mediums. Consistently communicate these messages to the investment community in the form of thoughtful press releases, investor presentations, scripts and website content.
    3. Utilize existing analytical tools and/or create new tools/analyses to support company’s investment thesis, knowledge and understanding of company markets, market drivers, supply/demand trends, peer business performance and financial expectations.
    4. Partner with Accounting and/or Asset Management departments on transactions    and company announcements where applicable. Identify projects that can add value to various departments (including IR), to buy and sell side analysts, and/or to RMR that can increase efficiency, business understanding and support fair    valuation of the companies.
    5. Establish relationships with present and potential investors, and sell-side analysts. Conduct IRO only marketing trips to secondary and tertiary investor markets.
    6. Work to identify and proactively target highest potential investors conducive to each company’s strategy and defining business characteristics.


    • Serve as the primary day-to-day communications contact for the investment community. 
    • Ensure that key messages are well researched, documented and communicated to all necessary personnel.  Communications should convey strategic direction and business plans and build confidence in management. 
    • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with sell-side analysts and institutional investors.  Should be seen as a knowledgeable resource for each company and, eventually, the broader industry.
    • Lead quarterly earnings preparation process, including script drafting and Q&A development.
    • Prepare management teams for communications with the investment community.
    • Partner with Senior Vice President and outside PR firm to optimize both internal and external communications and coordinate communication plans.
    • Oversee IR Analyst in maintenance of IR website as well as consensus of earnings estimates, including all sell-side analyst models and key drivers to external expectations. 
    • Serve as a source of competitive and market intelligence for management teams and Boards.  This includes reviewing news related to our vendors, customers, and competitors, government actions, consumer and industry trends and determining our response to these items.  This also includes maintaining financial analyses on key competitors and maintaining a thorough and detailed understanding of the consensus of earnings estimates, including all sell-side analyst models for competitors.
    • Manage the companies’ investor relations calendar, including quarterly results announcements, conference participation and ad hoc investor meetings.
    • Serve as primary contact for vendors and assist with the maintenance of critical IR relationships.


    • Excellent oral and written communication skills and analytical skills are required. Must be able to communicate each companies’ value propositions to a variety of constituents and answer detailed questions.  Must be able to effectively communicate both upward and downward.
    • Strong leadership skills. 
    • Self-confidence is required: must be assertive and able to maintain composure during confrontational or challenging situations.
    • Ability to deal effectively with change and ambiguous situations.
    • Strong problem-solving skills. 
    • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision: must be self-motivated.
    • Ability to travel as needed to investor conferences and marketing trips.
    • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Accounting, Finance or related area study.
    • Investor Relations experience with a Real Estate company a plus.
    • Minimum six (6) years of investor relations experience with a public company.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; writing sample will be required.
    • A high level of organization and thorough attention to detail.
    • The ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion.
    • Ability to analyze industry and economic data.
    • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint required; Bloomberg and Thomson Reuters tools are a plus.
    • Ability to work extended hours in preparation of quarterly financial communications, annual report preparation and capital markets activities.
