Overview

The Manager, REIT Accounting provides accounting and compliance support for the real estate finance division of RMR. This position requires close coordination with various corporate department executives and cross functional groups including: payroll, treasury, accounts payable and management information systems. In addition, this position will work closely with external lenders and loan servicers.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for oversight of month-end close processes, as well as preparation and review of public filings with the SEC. Specific responsibilities include:
    • Preparation of the consolidated financial statements.
    • Manage all aspects of SEC compliance and regulatory matters including reports on Form 8-K, 10-Q, 10-K and other filings as required.
    • Prepare quarterly earnings presentation.
    • Review and update XBRL information using WDesk.
    • Prepare quarterly disclosure checklist to ensure completeness of financial statements and related disclosures.
    • Manage the internal and external review process of all SEC filings (such as auditor, internal and external legal counsel and senior management).
  • Direct management and development of team of two accountants.
  • Ensure financial records are maintained in compliance with U.S. GAAP.
  • Assist in preparation of entity level forecasting.
  • Perform ad-hoc financial analysis; prepare board and committee materials and dividend declaration package.
  • Administer debt compliance on a quarterly basis as required by the loan agreements.
  • Prepare business management and incentive fee calculations due to external manager.
  • Manage internal and external audit requests on a quarterly and annual basis.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting and a strong record of success in academic and work environments. 
  • 7 - 8+ years of progressive accounting experience; mortgage REIT or specialty finance industry experience preferred.
  • Public accounting experience and CPA (preferred).
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, Yardi and WDesk (preferred).
  • Demonstrate knowledge of accounting practices and procedures with ability to research and recommend appropriate treatments.
  • Ability to propose and lead the application of new methodologies that satisfy systematic and scalable processes.
  • Highly organized and able to handle multiple deliverables at one time.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to effectively communicate with business partners and management regarding accounting related matters.
  • Ability to remain positive under pressure and to motivate team members with a focus on continual staff development.
