Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Staff, Portfolio Accountant to join our REIT Portfolio Accounting team. You will collaborate closely with internal departments and external auditors to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant financial reporting. This is a high-impact role with visibility across the organization and opportunities to lead process improvements. 

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, analyze, and deliver monthly, quarterly, and annual GAAP-based financial reports and supporting workpapers.
  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts; prepare and review journal entries.
  • Coordinate with asset management team to ensure appropriate accounting of full cycle of loan investments, including origination, monthly reporting, funding advances, loan modifications and repayments.
  • Support the preparation of SEC filings and related public disclosures for a publicly traded REIT.
  • Coordinate with external auditors during quarterly and annual procedures.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with debt covenants and other financial reporting requirements.
  • Maintain and update cash forecasts; monitor liquidity and funding needs.
  • Calculate and facilitate the payment of business management fees to RMR.
  • Review and code corporate payables for assigned portfolios.
  • Cross-train on other portfolios and provide support across the department as needed.
  • Lead or participate in special projects and strategic initiatives as assigned by senior management.
  • Continuously identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy. 

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
  • CPA or progress toward CPA strongly preferred.
  • 1-3 years of accounting experience, preferably with loan investments, real estate, REITs, or public accounting.
  • Proficiency with accounting software; Yardi experience preferred.
  • Advanced Excel skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with SEC reporting tools (e.g., Workiva) is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, collaborative, and results-driven environment.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and timeliness.

The estimated base compensation range for this position is $70,000 to $90,000 per year. RMR considers several components including an individual's skills, qualifications, experience, internal equity, and market data.
